Essential Oils are natural substances extracted from grasses, flowers, herbs, shrubs,
trees, resins and spices, usually through a process called steam distillation.
Oils can soothe, relax, rejuvenate, heal, energize or relieve pain, thereby affecting
the body's physical, psychological and emotional levels. Essential Oils used in this
manner is traditionally called aromatherapy.

Please be advised that some essential oils may be hazardous, this is why it is
important to have a firm understanding of the oil, its properties, uses, methods, etc.
Some essential oils are considered very safe, such as lavender.

B
Basil :
Cheers and strengthens. Helps to overcome emotional negativity and mental fatigue. Keeps you alert and attentive. Good for headache, nausea, colds and flu.
 
Bay :
The scent of Bay oil is sweet, fresh and spicy. The benefit of Bay oil lies in its calming and warming effect on emotions and general aches and pains, including rheumatic pains. It also settles the digestive system and acts as a tonic on the liver and kidneys. Bay essential oil is also helpful with hair and scalp conditions.

Bergamot :
Uplifting, refreshing and relaxing. Encourages cheerful emotions, ideal for depression. Its delicate, sweet aroma can also be used to freshen and uplift a room.
 






C
Cedarwood :
With a dry woody perfume this oil is ideal for soothing, harmonizing and focusing the mind. Antiseptic and astringent properties beneficial to oily skin.
Chamomile :
With its distinctive apple, herb aroma this oil aids sleep and soothes tired muscles. It also encourages emotional peace and calm with a gently calming effect on mind, body and emotions. An excellent oil for dry, sensitive and allergic skins.
 
Cinnamon :
The oil is yellow in colour and has a hot, spicy aroma, with a slightly sweet aroma. Can help with constipation, exhaustion, flatulence, lice, low blood pressure, rheumatism, scabies, stress.
Citronella :
Citronella oil is extracted from Cymbopogon nardus
Scent: citrus, fruity, fresh
Effect: stimulating
Use for: perspiration, fatigue, headache, insect repellent
Clary Sage :
Deeply relaxing and euphoric. Eases feelings of depression and when feeling run down emotionally and physically. Contains sensual properties and has a nutty pervasive fragrance.
 
Clove :
Clove oil has a very strong stimulating effect, has pain-relieving properties and is well known for soothing toothache. Clove oil is especially good preventative during the winter months. Can helps to clear mucus and blocked sinuses, helpful for coughs and bronchitis. It also encourages the mind to recall long-forgotten memories.

Eucalyptus :
Has a balancing and stimulating effect, with a camphorous, woody scent.
Uses indicated include asthma, bronchitis, flu, muscle aches, pulmonary conditions, rheumatism, sinusitis, and sore throat.

Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare)
Scent: warm, sweet, licorice-like
Effect: calming
Use for: wrinkles, nervousness, menstrual cramps, nausea

Frankincense (Boswellia carterii)
Scent: musty, warm, balsamic
Effect: meditative
Use for: stress, asthma, cough, arthritis, wrinkles

Geranium :
Sustaining, relaxing and restoring. It has a strong strengthening effect balances emotions and raises energy reserves whilst soothing mind and body. Balances sebum and is therefore suitable for all skin types. Has a penetrating floral perfume.
Ginger (Zingiber officinale)
Scent: warm, spicy, peppery
Effect: energizing
Use for: flu, muscle aches, nausea, sex drive

Grapefruit :
Refreshing and reviving, especially when feeling down this oil clears the mind and uplifts the spirits. A sharp, clear citrus fragrance.

Jasmine :
The heady, exotic perfume uplifts and nurtures as well as boosting confidence. An emotionally warming sensual oil. Helpful for post-natal recovery and also a good skin tonic.
 


















L  
Lavender :
Clear light flowery aroma, versatile oil for relaxing and balancing for mind and body. Aids sleep, soothes tired muscles, benefits the immune system encourages stillness and tranquility. Has some antiseptic qualities and is useful for the skin.
Lemon :
Refreshes and cools bringing clarity to mind and emotions restoring vitality acting as a tonic to the circulatory system. Has beneficial effects on the immune system, is cleansing on the skin.
Lemongrass :
Decreases irritability and drowsiness and inability to concentrate. Refreshing and stimulating. Anti-septic and anti-biotic.
Lime :
An uplifting, energizing oil with a sweet fragrance. Uplifts and restores vigour aiding recovery during convalescence. Has an astringent tonic action on the skin.

Marjoram, sweet :
Scent: warm, woody, herbaceous
Effect: calming
Use for: anxiety, muscle tension, high blood pressure, asthma

Myrrh :
Scent: warm, earthy, smoky
Effect: motivating
Use for: colds, cough, scrapes, chapped skin

Neroli (Citrus aurantium)
Scent: sweet, floral, citrus
Effect: calming
Use for: emotional shock, depression, stretch marks, scars, wrinkles

 

















O  
Orange, Sweet :
Expressed sweet orange oil is a pale orange yellow to dark orange colour; it has a sweet, light and fresh, fruity aroma and flavour, distinctly reminiscent of the odour from a scratched sweet orange peel. It's cheering, joyful, bright and lively aroma disperses gloomy thoughts, obsessions, and a fear of the unknown. Also helpful in treating colds, constipation, dull skin, flatulence, flu, gums, slow digestion. Good for mature and dry skin types.

Palmarosa :
Palmarosa oil has a sweet floral with a hint of rose smell and is pale yellow in color.
Effect: comforting
Use for: physical exhaustion, blemishes, oily skin, scars, wrinkles

Patchouli :
Patchouli is used to help remedy skin problems such as acne, eczema, athlete?s foot, fungus and dandruff.Patchouli is also reputed to be good for the emotions. It is said to help calm the nerves after an emotional upset. It is also said to be useful in cheering those who are depressed.
Peppermint :
Pine :
The true oil is practically colourless. It has a refreshing strong, turpentine type, balsamic pine aroma. It is an effective antiseptic and deodorant. Can help colds, coughing, flu, rheumatism, sinusitis.

Rose (Rosa damascena)
Scent: rich, floral, spicy
Effect: aphrodisiac
Use for: PMS, menopause, sex drive, skin tonic, broken capillaries
Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis)
Scent: strong, camphoric, woody
Effect: reviving
Use for: concentration, poor circulation, muscle aches, hair care

Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia)
